Humanitarian Evacuation Support – South Sudan

Overview:

In June 2025, DefenseDock was contracted by an international humanitarian coordination office to execute secure evacuation logistics in South Sudan, where clashes between rebel factions and government troops had intensified across Unity and Jonglei States. The situation deteriorated quickly following a breakdown in ceasefire negotiations, prompting mass displacement, aid worker withdrawal, and urgent requests for civilian extraction from conflict zones.

Our deployment focused on two key priorities: (1) secure transport of humanitarian staff and foreign nationals from remote operations camps to airfields and UN safe zones, and (2) evacuation of at-risk civilians trapped near contested towns and village corridors.

DefenseDock rapidly deployed four logistical and tactical teams equipped with armored transport vehicles, satellite-linked GPS navigation, and secure VHF/UHF comms systems. Routes were mapped using real-time intel provided by NGO partners, peacekeeping liaisons, and local sources.

Each evacuation was preceded by a rapid risk assessment, with fallback routes and extraction windows prepared for all movements. Our operators were instructed to minimize visible aggression, use minimal-footprint tactics, and avoid unnecessary conflict with regional militias or informal checkpoints. Embedded translators and civilian coordinators were deployed in every convoy to ensure clear communications with the local population and community leaders.

Over a five-day period, our teams successfully evacuated over 450 individuals—including aid workers, doctors, teachers, and displaced families—without incident. DefenseDock also conducted short-range helicopter extractions in marshy terrain where ground access was restricted due to flooding.

In the field, our operators provided on-site security at airstrips, secured overnight staging areas, and ensured medical screening of evacuees where possible. Our work concluded only after the last personnel were handed over to UN-mandated forces at the final checkpoint.

This mission demonstrated DefenseDock’s versatility in humanitarian scenarios—combining tactical capability with discretion, community sensitivity, and logistical command in a war-torn environment.

Project Outcome:

  • 450+ individuals safely evacuated from high-risk zones

  • 12 secure convoys completed across 3 states

  • 3 helicopter extractions coordinated with allied air units

  • 100% convoy integrity, zero conflict engagement

  • Coordinated with 4 NGO partners and UN security teams
